How To Solve Choppy Bluetooth Audio - Mac OS Catalina
Hi, hello, readers! How have you been, with COVID-19 striking us from all areas? I hope all of you are well.
So, maybe you've seen my previous post, about Sakumini Y2 Mini (it's in Indonesian). If you haven't, here's the summary: it's a true-wireless stereo bluetooth speaker, very cheap (~$30!!! a good deal, right), LOUD, and lightweight. It surely packs a punch with its small size.
The problem with it... choppy audio. On iOS, Android, even Windows, it's no problem. But, when I used in on MacOS, it's choppy. Pure garbage. Then I thought, if the problem only persists on MacOS, maybe the problem lies not in the speaker. I started googling about it, even tried resetting the Bluetooth module, reconnecting the speaker. None. Not one solution in the forums worked, except one.
Bluetooth Explorer.
What is Bluetooth Explorer?
It's an app provided by Apple for developers. You can download it on Apple Developers page, then it's in Additional Tools for Xcode. I think any version could work, but I downloaded the 11.4 version. After mounting the DMG file, open the Hardware folder. Theeeere you go.
After that, how?
First, connect your problematic speaker to your Mac via Bluetooth.
Then, open the Bluetooth Explorer app. There will not be any window open, so just go straight to Tools -- Audio Options, or just simply press Cmd + Shift + A on your keyboard.

Can you see the 'Minimum bitpool' and 'Maximum bitpool'?
Before you get confused, here's what the internet says about bitpool.
According to ValdikSS from Habr.com (2019), "Bitpool is a parameter that changes encoding bitrate: the higher it is, the higher the bitrate, and hence the quality. But exact bitpool value corresponds to exact bitrate only within exact profile."
Therefore, sliding the bitpool to bigger value = better quality. I tried changing the value of minimum bitpool to 40 and maximum bitpool to 60. The initial bitpool, 50.
Click close, then voila! My speaker is back to normal, with normal and UN-choppy sound. This works for me, so I hope it's going to work for you all!
